Art Director

Peter Lloyd was the youngest student to graduate with a Master's degree from the Art Center College of Design when he received his degree in 1969. A passionate artist, Peter has constantly embraced new technology for the increased palette it provides him as an artist. From airbrush to computer, Peter is recognized as a pioneer in the successful application of new technologies to art.

Peter began his career as a freelance illustrator with advertising clients including the NFL, National Geographic. and Levi's Clothing Company. He also illustrated for numerous major magazines such as Esquire, Playboy, and Oui. Later in the 1970's he began to design covers for major rock-and-roll bands including Jefferson Starship, Rod Stewart, and Kansas.

Peter began working in the feature film industry in the late 1970's. In 1982 he became a conceptual artist for Disney, and while there worked on the pioneering digital effects film Tron. His relationship with ground-breaking visual effects continued in the 1980's at Digital Productions, where he provided concept art for the Rolling Stones' Hard Woman music video, produced using the industry's first Cray supercomputer. Since then he has worked as a conceptual and storyboard artist on many feature films for such clients as Paramount Pictures, Columbia Studios, Cinergi Productions, Walt Disney Pictures and MGM.

In 1993 Peter began working with Santa Barbara Studios, serving as Art Director on the critically acclaimed 500 Nations, and later on the Academy Award nominated Imax film A Cosmic Voyage. Peter's role on those films was extensive, as he provided full-color concept art, storyboards, layouts, and several digital and traditional matte paintings. For 500 Nations, Peter also provided sculptures, and eighteen individual portraits that appear prominently in the finished film.

Continuing at Santa Barbara Studios, Peter's next project was Art Director for the digital visual effects on the feature film An American Werewolf in Paris. He also served as the designer of the film's lead characters - the werewolves. Peter provided extensive conceptual art, full-color renderings and maquettes of the werewolves, and supervised the creation of their large-scale models.

Over the years, Peter has won numerous awards including the prestigious New York Society of Illustrators Gold Medal Award. He is a featured artist in the 1979 Random House art book Air Powered.
